Home gardening is a fun and easy hobby to start. You'll get to watch your plants grow and blossom over time. But like every new hobby, it takes time and practice to keep your plants healthy and alive.
Here is a list of houseplants that are easy to take care of and are perfect for beginners:
1. Snake Plant
The snake plant is the to-go plant of every beginner. It is a resilient succulent plant that has stiff, upright, sword-like leaves. Research says that it can also clean the air inside your home. It is one of the few plants that can convert carbon dioxide air into oxygen at night.
Snake plants require low maintenance and can grow even with little attention. Just make sure that you don't overwater it and put it in a pot where it can drain well. Indirect sunlight is also the best for this kind of plant.
2. Spider Plant
The spider plant is considered one of the most adaptable houseplants. Its leaves are a rosette of long, thin, arched foliage that is green and variegated with white. During summer, the plant may grow small flowers that are called "pups." It was also once highlighted by NASA for its air-purifying ability.
Spider plants are tough plants that make them perfect for beginners. Plant these in a well-draining potting mix. When the plants become too soggy, it can lead to root rot. Moderate indirect sunlight works best for this plant.
3. Fittonia
This one is also called nerve plant or mosaic plant. Fittonia has delicately veined, deep-green leaves. The most popular color of its vein is white, but it also has other variations like pink, white, and green.
Fittnonia nerve plants like their soil well-drained but a bit moist. These plants also love high humidity. When it comes to sunlight, this plant also likes bright, indirect sunlight.
4. Chinese Evergreen
Chinese Evergreens tolerate almost every indoor condition. This plant varies from having plain green, speckled, blotched, and variegated types. During summer, tiny flowers also appear on this plant that then turns into berries.
This plant doesn't need to be watered often like other plants. It just needs to be watered once every few weeks, and when so, make sure that the soil is evenly moist. Avoid exposing this plant to direct sunlight.
Jade plants are also succulent plants like the snake plant, which makes it easy to grow indoors. It has thick woody stems and oval-shaped leaves. Though there are other variations, this type is the most common.
When taking care of a jade plant, make sure to use a pot where the soil would drain thoroughly. Also, be careful with watering it to avoid overwatering the plant. Jade plants require direct sunlight so they can grow properly.
